From complex problems to simple solutions
Basically, we can summarize the task of a designer in transforming complex problems into simple solutions. But the pursuit of simplicity is not an easy task.
In UX design, we have several laws that remind us of the importance of simplicity in design.
- Nielsen's Heuristic 8: Aesthetic Dialogues and Minimalist Design
- Hick's Law: The time it takes to make a decision increases as the number of options increases.
And my favorite...
- Occam's Razor, which simplified, would be: "the simplest option is usually the best."
In fact, Aristotle said something similar: "We consider it a good principle to explain phenomena with the simplest possible hypothesis."
As designers, we tend to complicate our designs, perhaps in order to demonstrate our skills. However, we must keep in mind that simplicity is also a decision of the most experienced designers. As established by the Law of the aesthetic usability effect: Aesthetically pleasing designs are also perceived as Useful designs. In this project, each element and space has its purpose and is carefully thought out, as shown in the analysis of the previous image.
